How To Declutter
One of life’s most daunting tasks is organizing and decluttering your home before moving. Over time, your home starts to accumulate stuff and its difficult to identify when you need not worry about moving. We are all guilty of it, we go to Ikea and purchase something new for our home, then we take our old furniture or decorations, and stuff them away only to never see them again. A common question we are asked by many of our clients is “How can we declutter our home fast?”
This question has been difficult for us to answer, so we reached out to Lydia Evdoxiadi of Relocate Smart to help by providing her decluttering tips. We sincerely hope this article provides excellent insight into how to organize your life and help you to start living simple.
Decluttering your Home
The moment we decide to move, or even worse relocate to a new country with all our belongings, we realize how much we accumulate through time. It’s all about volume! We quickly encounter clutter, discord, and difficulty. You can either take everything as is or make some critical choices. Moving is a very precious opportunity to use to your advantage to de-clutter and reconnect with things you put aside that are important and can come to become important when we move. If you don’t, chances are you will find that mess in front of you, beginning a new something important. I would like you to get acquainted with your three new friends; Give, Away, Throw Away and Pack Away (GTP)!
GTP Every Item Once
We all have visited someone’s home where, upon entering, you felt terrified by the clutter, felt like you were in front of a skeletal collection, or you were transported back to the 50’s, and not it a good way. The houses I am talking about are more like storage rooms; you instantly feel like life stopped somewhere and the people inside are not willing to move along with life. There is something negative about those homes, mainly sadness and grief. While there is a time for all these feelings, it is best they are done away with at their expiration date, which should be quick! GTP keeps the best of the past and the present to make space for the glorious future. Choose your side and help yourself be propelled far in health, joy, and money.
Give Away, Throw Away, Pack Away! Study the diagram and keep that image clearly in your mind. Constantly ask yourself…. Do I want to go up or down? New life, old life? You can print it, take a screenshot, whatever helps you keep it handy!
Give Away, Throw Away, Pack Away!
This diagram applies to many aspects of life, but especially to personal organization. GTP is very efficient when each element works simultaneously with the others and to do so they each need their container. Should you choose to do G, T, and P separately, it works out to a good twenty per cent of its potential. In order to decide which things to give away and throw away, you will be processing a large volume of things. It is natural that things keep showing up around your house round and round… The quicker you sort through your belongings, the faster and the more targeted you pack. Remember that GTP is group work, it works together and simultaneously. The result is very powerful and saves you tons of money and labor.
Simple Living at its Finest!
That’s right! You are redistributing the power of things and belongings to reach your goals! Think about it for a moment. Can you go the way you dream if you keep, throw, and give away things? So throw and recycle the best you can. Give away what you do not want or need anymore and this can give new life to others. You are moving to another stage/station of life. To be successful in life, you need to navigate these power fields efficiently. Use your materials to your power and success, making things serve you. That’s what things are for, it began with flint stones thousands of years ago for the same purpose, to serve YOU!
